We are delighted to announce that the William Henry Smith Foundation has been awarded the Music Mark of Recognition, celebrating our school’s ongoing commitment to high-quality, inclusive music education.
The award, presented by Calderdale Music in partnership with Music Mark – the UK Association for Music Education, recognises schools that place significant value on music and demonstrate dedication to improving opportunities for all children and young people.
A Celebration of Musical Growth
Following a successful visit from Calderdale Music earlier this week - highlighted by a fantastic pupil showcase - our school’s developing music provision was praised for its positive impact and inclusive approach.
Laura Durrans, Associate Director for Schools, Singing and Inclusion at Calderdale Music, commented:
“It’s clear that music at the Foundation is truly developing and having a positive impact on your pupils. I hope you can share and celebrate this recognition for your commitment to developing your inclusive music provision.”
What the Music Mark Means
Music Mark champions and supports access to music for all young people across the UK. As part of the Music Mark community, the Foundation now has access to:
- A national calendar of training, events and professional development
- A comprehensive resource library offering curriculum inspiration and advocacy tools
Showcasing Talent: Bill Smith’s Got Talent
Just days before receiving the Music Mark recognition, pupils took to the stage for our annual Bill Smith’s Got Talent competition.
The event was a vibrant celebration of musical confidence and creativity, with boys performing everything from vocal pieces to instrumental solos.
The competition captured exactly what our developing music provision is all about — giving every pupil the opportunity to shine, grow, and express themselves through music.

Looking Ahead
This recognition highlights the hard work of staff, pupils and partners who continue to strengthen music across our school.
We are excited to continue working with Calderdale Music and Music Mark as we build on this achievement and further develop our boys experience of music.
